Val is a real estate agent and also a family member. Val is also helping to set up our fundraising strategy.
Maureen Hyland, Secretary
Maureen is a mental health advocate and has raised funds for a number of agencies including a youth based mental health facility, a hospital based eye clinic, and a residential housing facility for individuals with mental health issues. ?? She co-founded Howard Park Children???s Centre a school-based day care and, for eleven years served on the Board of Directors of Parkdale Community Legal Services.
Maureen has a Masters of Library Science from the University of British Columbia.?? Her professional career includes employment as academic librarian at both Humber College, and the University of Calgary, as well as, law librarian at the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Kelly Schwartz, Treasurer
??Kelly Schwartz, Treasurer, CPA, CA is a Chartered Accountant (2003). ??She has a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Brock University and is currently employed as Controller at BNY Mellon. ??Prior to joining the FOR Board, Kelly was Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, South Niagara from 2004 to 2010.
Rebekah Tsingos, Past President??
Rebekah is Vice Principal in the Toronto District School Board. ??She has a Bachelor of Education, from Queen???s University and Ontario Principal???s Qualification. ??Rebekah was awarded both the Teacher of the Year Award, from the Ontario Council for Exceptional Children and the Positive Community Impact Award, from the Ontario Secondary School Teacher???s Federation.
She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Organization for Woman Educators, which promoted and expanded opportunities for women in education. Rebekah is an advocate for mental health initiatives with a special focus on mental health awareness and advocacy for students and staff at the school and district levels.
Paul is Vice President of Strategic Development at MDA, one of Canada???s largest technology companies. A former entrepreneur and university professor, he has a PhD in computer science. Paul is also on the Board of the Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation in Hamilton. He lives in Etobicoke with his wife and two daughters.
George Horhota, Member at Large
George is a passionate advocate of recovery-oriented mental health support services to families. ??He is Chair of Ivan Franko Homes, a not-for-profit provider of accommodations and support services for 160 seniors, Director of the Civitan Club of Oakville and past director of the CAMH Foundation Board. ??George is a corporate/communications lawyer, board member of Community Trust and President of BrightLane Inc., supporting a community of up to 300 entrepreneurs on King Street West.
