Inquiry into the ‘Schizophrenia’ Label

Inquiry into the Schizophrenia' Label

The Inquiry into the ‘Schizophrenia’ Label (ISL) is an independent inquiry into the usefulness of ‘schizophrenia’ as a diagnosis and medical condition. It is also investigating the impact this diagnosis has on people’s lives.

ISL is supported by the Family Outreach Program as well as other national and international organizations, groups and individuals. On July 10, 2012 an event is being planned here in Toronto to launch the work of the inquiry into the schizophrenia label. Dr. Suman Fernando will be the keynote speaker.

For details and to spread the word about this event, please download the flier www.schizophreniainquiry.org for more information and to submit evidence to the Inquiry. You can submit evidence via the website by completing a questionnaire or writing to us using our testimony form at http://www.schizophreniainquiry.org/get-involved

The evidence collected will be examined by an independent panel made up of service users, academicians and a lawyer. The panel will produce a report based on this evidence which will be forwarded to a range of organisations including NICE, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, other professional and statutory bodies, private and third sector organisations, and the Department of Health.

This Inquiry has no financial ties to any organisation and is supported by approximately one hundred individuals and over 20 national and international organisations. You can also use the website to register your support and to spread the word about the Inquiry.

Please email info @ schizophreniainquiry.org if you need any further information. To download the press release and help spread the word,

Golf for Good time! GGG is a fundraising initiative of the Family Outreach and Response Program (FOR). FOR supports and educates families and friends during the mental health recovery process. Last year, over 400 families used our services. Now in its 7th year, this charity golf event continues to build in popularity and is a key platform to the charity, providing essential services not covered by base funding.

One Spectacular Club!
The Masters course at Lionhead Golf and Country Club was recently voted best hidden gem in the city by the Toronto Star. Sloped at 146, a more traditional design harmonizing with the natural surroundings of forest and rolling hills. A solid mixture of over 100 well placed bunkers, 9 ponds and 2 rivers make each hole distinctive and an unforgettable experience. This course designed by Architect Ted Baker requires distance off the tee with a premium on accuracy, your approach to large inviting greens are always guarded extremely well by water or bunkers. The traditions of golf have been uniquely captured in this layout and will provide a test to every level of golfer.

2011 Golf for Good proceeds will help to fund our Youth Engagement Initiative: Talk To Youth Lately (TTYL)

Since our inception in April 2008 TTYL has:

- Educated more than 2500 youth about mental health through a formal partnership with the Toronto District School Board
- Developed innovative mental health recovery programs for youth
- Has been chosen to be a research site for the Mental Health Commission
- Created a Theatre and Cirque Project
